The DBC Handbell Ministry, equipped with five octaves of handbells and five octaves of hand chimes, is designed to provide children, youth, young adults and adults the opportunity to learn beginning ringing techniques and musical notation, while challenging them to expand existing musical skills and enhance Sunday worship experiences through handbells.
The Young Musicians Handbell Choir is for 4th - 6th grade children that meets Wednesdays, 5:40 - 6:10 PM. This choir, comprised of beginning handbell ringers and ringers with one or two years’ experience, is a featured group at the annual Children’s Music Ministry Christmas at Derbyshire and Spring concert presentations.
The Ringing for Him Choir is a 7th - 12th grade ensemble that rehearses Sundays, 3:30 - 4:15 PM. In addition to select weekly worship presentation responsibilities, these students faithfully participate in the annual Summer tour with the other three youth and young adult musical groups.
The Joyful Sound Choir is the newest addition to the handbell ministry and is composed of high school graduates - twenty-three year olds. With brief seasonal rehearsals, this group contributes to the worship life of our congregation by offering selections at Christmas, as well as on the annual summer tour with the other three youth and young adult musical groups.
The Master Ringers is a select adult handbell choir for experienced ringers that rehearses Sundays, 6:15 - 7:15 PM. Having participated in past Virginia Baptist State Handbell Festivals, this group of seasoned ringers faithfully lead in both Sunday worship services and consistently find themselves playing demanding literature that utilizes the many thrilling handbell techniques and special effects. They were the featured ensemble in the 2008 Christmas at Derbyshire presentations playing solo literature with full orchestra and accompanying the Chancel Choir on selected pieces.
The Golden Tones Ringers is a senior adult handbell choir that rehearses Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and rings for selected 8:30 a.m. worship services, as well as leads along with the Golden Tones Choir at the annual DBC Thanksgiving Service.
