David Schwoebel is Minister of Music / Composer in Residence at Derbyshire Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. He is a graduate of McKendree College in Lebanon, IL and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Voice and Organ Performance, and a Master of Church Music with an emphasis in Composition, respectively. Prior to beginning his ministry at Derbyshire in January 1997, he had served churches in his hometown of Belleville, IL, as well as Montgomery, AL and Atlanta, GA. As an ordained minister, David administrates and oversees a comprehensive music ministry of nine choral organizations, five handbell choirs, an Orff ensemble, and a 28-piece orchestra and brass ensemble. His energetic, hands-on approach to ministry finds him working each week with people of all ages, encouraging and equipping them to discover and develop their varied musical talents and skills. The MICHELLE hymn tune included in the 1991 Baptist Hymnal is named after David's wife, Michelle. The BRITTANY, ASHLEY and COURTNEY hymn tunes in the Celebrating Grace Hymnal are named after their three daughters.

Dr. Edward J. Stansfield
More Info
A native of Auburn, New York, Dr. Stansfield graduated from Houghton (NY) College and from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. He returned to Union in the 1980's to earn the Doctor of Ministry degree. Ed was ordained to the ministry by Corinth Baptist Church in New Kent and served that church for thirteen years. During this initial pastorate he was bi-vocational, teaching high school English, History and Public Speaking, first in New Kent and then for eight years in Williamsburg. In 1974 he accepted the pastorate of Skipwith Baptist Church where he served for eighteen years. During these years he was a visiting chaplain at Henrico Doctors Hospital, and for three years was chair of the planning committee for the annual community Easter sunrise service held at the Woody Chapels. In 1991 he was the moderator of the Richmond Baptist Association. From 1992 through September 2007 Ed was the pastor of Chester Baptist Church. While at Chester he was elected by Virginia Baptists to two four-year terms as a trustee of the Children's Home of Virginia Baptists in Ettrick. Since leaving Chester in 2007, Ed has been the pulpit guest in several area churches, and last year enjoyed an eight-month interim pastorate at the Burkeville Baptist Church. Ed is married to the former Dorothy Hoffman from Pittsburgh. "Dot" has an associate's degree in Christian Education from Houghton College and a degree in Education/Library science from VCU. She was a career media specialist/librarian in the Richmond Public Schools, with tenures at Blackwell Primary School and the Richmond Technical Center. The Stansfields have two daughters, Beth Ayn and Tracy, and four grandchildren. All live in Chesterfield.

Laura Cooper was born and raised in northeast Michigan. She attended Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida where she met her husband, Tim. After receiving a bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in December of 2010, she and her husband were transferred to Richmond through Tim’s job. The Coopers love to get out and do things, and can often be found at a local museum, amusement park, or out with friends. Laura is the Administrative Assistant for ministries providing support to staff ministers and deacons. She maintains all the membership, wedding, birth, death, dedication, and baptism records. Laura oversees the church’s calendar, and is the contact person for weddings, funerals, and social events. She also writes and emails a weekly prayergram, along with an updated prayer list, to members and friends of Derbyshire.

Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Merchandising and an Associates of Art degree in Retailing from Virginia Intermont in Bristol, Virginia. Julie’s early background was in business. She was a buyer for Belk and she even owned her own children’s specialty store, The Sand Box, in Wilmington, NC for five years. When Julie moved to Richmond she decided to work part-time and was offered a job as a church secretary. She has since made it a full-time career. She has worked in several churches over the last ten years before coming to Derbyshire three years ago to be the Office Manager. Julie is a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church and is the proud parent of Whitney and Hunter Hoffman. Her favorite leisure activities include spending time with her family and friends, playing with her puppy, shopping, flower gardening, watching Hunter’s basketball games, and visiting her daughter in Raleigh.

Christine G. Overbey

Born and raised in South Boston, VA, Christine "Chris" Overbey came to Richmond in 1956 as a young wife, and she and her late husband Frank became charter members of Derbyshire Baptist Church. They raised two children, Roslyn and Frank, through whom they have three grandsons. Chris holds the record for working at Derbyshire Baptist for the longest period of time. In October ’09 Chris celebrated 28 years of ministry to the members of this church. During that time, she has done several jobs. She has been church secretary, helped with the financial postings, and been church receptionist. She is the resource person who knows the most about members past and present, and she is a wealth of knowledge on church history. She will likely be the first contact you will have at Derbyshire, greeting you warmly over the phone, or with a smiling face when you walk in the door.
