The DBC Children’s Choirs are designed to encourage three year old - grade six children to enjoy discovering and growing their musical skills and knowledge while increasing their awareness of and need for God in their lives. Each age-related choir meets Wednesday, 6:00 - 6:45 PM during the school year and provides musical opportunities and experiences appropriate to the child’s developmental age and ability.

The Pre-School I Choir is for three year old children and is an experiential, beginning choir that explores the very basic of concepts about God and music through the singing of brief, small range melodies while enjoying guided physical movement and selected craft activities.

The Pre-School II Choir is for four and five year old children and expands upon the basic musical and spiritual concepts and skills of the beginning group.

The Music Makers I Choir is for first grade children and highlights basic musical notation while continuing to encourage proper unison singing and exploring and deepening spiritual concepts. Sunday presentation opportunities in select 11:00 AM Sunday worship services occur with the older groups.

The Music Makers II Choir is for second and third grade children and creatively uses Orff instruments and hand chimes to further develop understanding and use of musical notation in score reading and encourages part singing on more challenging music to deepen their faith in and understanding of God. This group regularly leads in 11:00 AM Sunday worship service.

The Young Musicians Choir is for fourth - sixth grade children and strives to advance personal understanding of musical notation and the practice of score reading, effective use of the singing voice and enable successful part singing. Also, in their maturing state, a knowledgeable, personal faith in God is encouraged along with instilling Christian stewardship of talent, time and energy of faithful worship practice and leadership in the 11:00 AM Sunday worship service.

The Combined Children’s Music Ministry presents two original musical dramas each year. Recently they presented O Come, All Ye Faithful based on an anthem arranged by Minister of Music / Composer in Residence, David Schwoebel written expressly “to honor the talented children and their dedicated musical leadership at Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, Virginia.”
