Children and Families

While parents attend Sunday school classes, Derbyshire offers age-level Sunday school classes for babies through 6th graders. During the Sunday morning 8:30 and 11:00 worship services, nursery care is provided. Worship Explorers is a new program, unique to Derbyshire that provides a learning experience about the elements of worship for 2, 3, 4, and 5 year olds. This program is available during the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services and is staffed by qualified volunteers who teach through Bible stories, crafts, music, and prayer.
On Wednesday evenings, following the Family Mid-week Dinner in Bryant Hall, various age-related classes in Children’s music and Children’s missions are offered.
During the summer months Derbyshire offers a variety of Bible learning programs for children. Vacation Bible School is an exciting and fun program where children learn to be like Jesus. Summer Fun Days are half day programs with a theme based on Bible learning.
Our Children and Families Ministry Team strongly encourages our congregation to support our ministry in prayer and through hands-on involvement. Our children are a gift from God, and it is our responsibility as adults to model and encourage a relationship with Jesus. Our leadership starts for our children at the youngest of ages and we look forward to working with you as you are either parenting a young child or working with our children, from babies through 6th graders.
DBC offers a child-safe environment for each of our programs, with all volunteers fully investigated and approved.

Theology of Children Learning
The Bible is the source of laying strong faith foundations children need as they grow to be contented, to trust in Jesus, and to proclaim his witness to the world with all life holds for them. Each stage of a child’s biblical understanding builds upon the next stage. They develop from younger preschoolers hearing teachers telling stories from the Bible to older children understanding the meaning and having the faith to believe in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Children are constant learners. They learn by watching and listening to others; therefore, as a church community we strive to provide godly examples for our children to observe. We strive to provide an atmosphere of love and kindness and of gentleness and goodness so children will grow and develop into the child of God he wants each of them to be.
